Rixonway Kitchens is expanding its engineering division with the addition of four new apprentices.
Joe Howley, Jason Leigh Jackson, Jamie Denison and Samesh Lad have joined as machinist and maintenance apprentices, and will learn about how different machines work and how to fix any problems.
The West Yorkshire company – a Yorkshire and the Humber Apprenticeship Ambassador for the National Apprenticeship Service – now has 11 apprentices working across maintenance, business, administrative, transport, accounting, planning and machinery departments – many of which are working toward NVQs and other qualifications.
Lad, a 20-year-old maintenance apprentice from Leeds, said: “The variety of jobs to do on a daily basis is the most enjoyable thing about working at Rixonway; there is always something new to learn. I’ve picked up a keener interest in engineering as a whole and my apprenticeship has helped me to find ways to make use of any spare time I have by using it to build on my expanding knowledge.”
Rixonway sales and marketing director David Anderson added: “It’s a breath of fresh air to see so many young people taking up apprenticeships with us and working at our factory alongside their college studies. Apprentices benefit both employers and employees and it is great to have so many enthusiastic young people wanting to learn a trade and establish their career with us.”
The company recently offered full-time positions to four former apprentices, who work in purchasing, admin and transport.
